Road America, read corner by corner

A real session in a 718 GT4 RS, recorded with the Porsche Track Precision app on October 9, 2026 and analyzed by Pitwall: 4 timed laps, the official 14 turns, and where the time goes in each of them. The numbers on this page are produced by the live analysis from the same file you can download below, so they move when the method improves.

The circuit

Road America is 4.048 miles (6.515 km) of fast, flowing road course with 14 official turns and three long straights that reward exit speed above everything. Pitwall's turn library places the official numbering on your GPS line: T1 to T8 by number, then the Carousel (T9 and T10), the Kink (T11), Canada Corner (T12), Thunder Valley (T13) and Bill Mitchell Bend (T14) onto the front straight. Drop in a session from any logger and the circuit is recognized from your GPS.

1. What to fix: the three corners costing the most

On the best lap, against a theoretical best stitched from this driver's own fastest clean segments. Each corner gets one finding, the evidence that triggered it, and the drill.

T9 · The Carousel+0.42 s · Better exit speed3 mph slower 328 ft past the apex, and that deficit carries all the way down the next straight.Drill: Use a slightly later apex so the car is straighter, and you can go to full throttle sooner.
T13 · Thunder Valley+0.35 s · Stability control is cutting in on exitThe stability-control channel shows it cutting in as you got back on the power, which trims torque and costs drive. That usually points to the rear being near its limit, though line, tires and conditions play a part too.Drill: Something to try: squeeze the throttle in as you start to unwind the wheel, rather than while you are still adding lock.
T3+0.33 s · Stability control is cutting in on exitThe stability-control channel shows it cutting in as you got back on the power, which trims torque and costs drive. That usually points to the rear being near its limit, though line, tires and conditions play a part too.Drill: Something to try: squeeze the throttle in as you start to unwind the wheel, rather than while you are still adding lock.
The one thing to work on across the lap: rear sliding/stability control on exit, seen in T3, T6, T10, T11, T13, T14. Change that one habit and the time comes back all around the lap.

2. Why: every turn against the theoretical best

Minimum speed on the best lap and the time lost in each turn's segment (from the end of the previous straight to the end of the next) against the fastest clean time this driver set through it in the session. The segments add up to the gap in the tile above.

3. Show me the data: the scorecard

Six habits graded from how often the related calls fired across the lap. Not a comparison with other drivers: a count of what this driver's own data shows.

Using the gripStrongMid-corner you use about 98% of the lateral grip the car has shown today.
ConsistencyStrongClean laps: standard deviation 0.26 s, 0.57 s from fastest to slowest, across 3 laps. Least consistent corner: T5 (standard deviation 0.63 s).
Trail brakingStrongBlended braking into turning in 6 of 8 braking corners.
BrakingSolidAverage peak 1.17 g (best 1.36 g), 0.52 s to full pressure.
ThrottleSolidCoasting in T6 and T9.
Car balanceNeeds workUndersteer in T3 and T14; signs of rear sliding or stability control on exit in T3, T6, T10, T11, T13 and T14.

The full debrief adds the traces, the running delta, the track map coloured by gain and loss, the grip circle and lap-against-lap comparison, with video sync if you have footage. T5 and T12 were your best of the day and technically clean. Use them as a reference for how the rest of the lap should feel. Consistent: your clean laps had a standard deviation of 0.26 s, with 0.57 s between the fastest and slowest, so your changes will show up clearly in the data.

4. What to practice next

The guided walkthrough ends with one objective for the next session, measurable in the data: the drill from the biggest corner above, with the theoretical-best time as the target. Save the session to your garage, drive, save the next one, and the garage files both under Road America so the comparison is one tap.

Loggers that work here

Anything with GPS: AiM .xrk files straight from the logger, Porsche Track Precision exports, VBOX .vbo files, RaceChrono CSV or VBO exports, and the sessions from Pitwall's own phone lap timer. The car's pedal and steering channels unlock the pedal and balance calls; GPS-only sessions still get the corner ranking, the delta and the speeds.
